- Peptide
- A short chain of amino acids joined by peptide bonds — smaller than a protein.
- Amino acid
- The individual building block of peptides and proteins.
- Sequence
- The specific order of amino acids that defines a given peptide.
- Lyophilisation (freeze-drying)
- Removal of water under vacuum to leave a stable dry powder that stores well.
- Reconstitution
- Dissolving a lyophilised peptide in a diluent to form a solution for research use.
- Bacteriostatic water
- Sterile water containing 0.9% benzyl alcohol, which inhibits bacterial growth, commonly used as a reconstitution diluent.
- Aliquot
- A measured sub-portion divided off from a larger solution so the remainder is left undisturbed.
- HPLC (high-performance liquid chromatography)
- An analytical technique that separates a sample to measure its purity.
- Mass spectrometry (MS)
- A technique that measures molecular weight to confirm a compound’s identity.
- Certificate of analysis (COA)
- A document reporting a batch’s identity and measured purity.
- Lot / batch
- A single production run, tracked by a unique number for traceability.
- Purity
- The proportion of a sample that is the intended peptide; TAD’s release standard is ≥99% by HPLC.
- Molecular weight
- The mass of a molecule, usually expressed in daltons (Da).
- Secretagogue
- A substance studied for its capacity to promote the secretion of another substance.
- GHRH analogue
- A synthetic molecule whose structure resembles growth-hormone-releasing hormone.
- Chelation
- The binding of a metal ion within a molecule — for example, copper held within GHK-Cu.
- Half-life
- The time taken for a quantity to fall to half its value; a common pharmacokinetic descriptor in research.
